1952 Marx Tom Corbett Sparkling Space Ship In Original Box
Fantastic example of Marx's classic Tom Corbett Sparkling Polaris Space Ship in near mint condition complete with original box. All steel litho construction powered by strong clockwork motor makes a loud boing-boing sound while moving. Simultaneously emits a shower of sparks through the rear exhaust. I replaced the flint and it works beautifully. "Space-age" torpedo shape, multicolored design with fish-like camouflaging (i.e., light underbelly and dark upper half). Ship has four horizontal body fins, four embossed hatch covers, 2" diameter pressed disk wheels, single rear rubber wheel, original upright tail fin, and original green celluloid exhaust covering. Key is attached. On/off switch above the rear right fin controls movement. Best of all it works beautifully! The main box panels were illustrated with Corbett and two bubble helmeted crew members proudly standing against a lunar landscape with Earth off in the distance. The Polaris space ship exhaust can be seen on the left. The side panels include a simple portrait view of the ship along with bubble helmeted Patrol cadets at the helm. Also printed is the toy name, manufacturer name and address. One set of interior end flaps (see photo) include operating instructions and flint replacement. Size: 12" Date Sold: Aug. 2009
